Integrity breeds profitability: “Businesses entering the renewable energy space cannot afford to compromise on quality”
31 August 2021 – The renewable energy sector offers South Africa an exciting chance to not just decarbonise our energy supply, but to provide new business opportunities to emerging companies. This is according to Svilen Voychev – Managing Director of Valsa Trading. “As the sector grows, renewable energy projects and the wider supply chain are areas of economic opportunity,” he says. However, he warns that quality, compliance, and integrity are essential elements that every small business must promote, if they are to be truly sustainable and competitive.
“Over our years of operation, we have seen many companies and service providers enter the market. Those who don’t compromise on quality are the ones that are still in business today,” Voychev says. In this sense, Voychev believes that integrity breeds profitability.
Since launching 12 years ago, Valsa Trading has grown into a successful turnkey solutions provider in the renewable energy sector. They also design, manufacture, and supply mounting system solutions for all types of applications. In addition, a comprehensive range of PV solar products is available from the company, which services PV solar installers, resellers, and EPC companies. Voychev is passionate about sharing their industry knowledge with the wider value chain in order to facilitate growth in the sector.
He says that when doing business in the ever-growing renewable energy sector, small businesses must ensure they can deliver quality in their product choices, installation, operations, and maintenance. “It is not enough to be good at just one side of the job,” comments Voychev. “While a renewable energy service provider may be an expert in installation, the quality of the products they choose is a prominent determinant of system success. When installing an unsuitable product, system efficiency is compromised and value-for-money may not be realised, since a cheaper or counterfeit product is unlikely to offer the same efficiency as a higher quality product.” Likewise, he says that using the best products but installing them incorrectly is another cause for concern. “Poor installation also impacts system efficiency and longevity, and is sure to leave your customer very unhappy.”
“When you choose the wrong products and when they are not installed properly, maintenance costs sky-rocket! Up to 70% of revenue is often spent on maintenance costs – and you can count on this impacting your business’s reputation, and your relationship with customers,” warns Voychev.
Enabling a quality local renewable energy sector, Valsa takes care to stock the best quality and value-for-money products. The company recently added the Livoltek range of inverters to their extensive portfolio. These inverters and energy storage systems are compact, elegant, and can be expanded to exactly meet your energy storage demand for the future. They run silently and come with a smart meter and Wi-Fi dongle, and feature a user-friendly cloud platform and APP portal which enables remote setting of parameters.
“These inverters come with many advantages to users – but it goes beyond that. Livoltek offers an opportunity for economic growth in the sector as the OEM is considering South Africa as its next manufacturing destination! By fostering adoption of these inverters in SA, we are increasing the chances that a local Livoltek plant becomes a reality, and a source of much needed localisation and job creation,” says Voychev. In the meantime, the company has a local distributer which ensures high availability of products and spares, as well as personalised customer service.
“The renewable energy sector offers a wealth of opportunity for those businesses who prioritise quality, integrity and compliance. Power supply is a serious industry – it is the backbone of our country and economy. It requires businesses who take themselves seriously and take pride in what they do. I look forward to seeing new entrants in this market who are ready to step up to the plate,” concludes Voychev.
