This follows on Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana\u2019s Budget speech on Wednesday, 23 February.<\/p>\n<p>The budget highlighted that Human Settlements\u00a0 projects\u00a0 include\u00a0 six\u00a0 Integrated\u00a0 Residential\u00a0 Development\u00a0 Programmes,\u00a0 10\u00a0 social\u00a0 housing projects and two high\u2010impact privately led developments.<\/p>\n<p>These 18 projects gazetted under the\u00a0 strategic\u00a0 integrated\u00a0 project\u00a0 portfolio\u00a0 have\u00a0 a\u00a0 total\u00a0 investment\u00a0 value\u00a0 of\u00a0 R142\u00a0 billion\u00a0 and\u00a0 will\u00a0 provide\u00a0 housing\u00a0 for over\u00a0 170 000\u00a0 people. The\u00a0 portfolio is\u00a0 projected\u00a0 to\u00a0 create more\u00a0 than\u00a0 578\u00a0 000 jobs\u00a0 during\u00a0 development and over 89 000 permanent jobs.<\/p>\n<p>SHRA Acting CEO Mpolai Nkopane explains that this reaffirms the commitment of the government to improve the livelihoods of its citizens by focusing on infrastructure delivery, which underpins the success of a strong, growing economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was encouraging to hear the renewed commitment from \u2018government to \u2018sustain economic growth that can South Africa create enough jobs to reduce poverty and inequality; enabling us to reach our goal of a better life for all,\u2019\u201d she adds.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, in as statement by Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Patricia De Lille, and Head of Infrastructure South Africa, Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, it was expressed that the Human Settlements sector is progressing at an accelerated pace with social housing receiving much of the attention in the past year. \u201cThe Social Housing Regulatory Authority has worked closely with the Infrastructure Fund , where they were able to unlock R305 million approved funding over two years for the priority social housing projects.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>24 February 2022: The Social Housing Regulatory Authority (SHRA) continues to be encouraged by government\u2019s commitment to the development of social housing across South Africa.
