The 2026 Imperative: Human-Centric Comms

The 2026 Imperative: Human-Centric Comms

By Megan van Wyngaardt

New NEWS! An article posted on LinkedIn this week noted that for the first time in human history, two people communicated using only their thoughts across a distance of 8 000 kilometres, one in India and the other in the United States.

While this is debatable, further research showed that it was between people in India and France, and that it dated as far back as 2014. So, which one is true? I guess we’ll never know. But the underlying realisation is the undisputed fact that technology is moving, and it is moving at a rapid pace. Are we keeping up?

Absolutely, of course we are! But, we believe in ensuring that one critical ingredient is always present – the human touch.

We can no longer say that AI is fast approaching, it’s here. Right before our eyes we are seeing how these tools are reshaping how we work, communicate and connect. However, one truth stands out, while technology is amplifying our reach, human connection fuels real impact. In order to maximise the impact of AI we’re championing human-centric communication – strategies that prioritise empathy, creativity, and collaboration over automation alone. Why? Because in the industries we work, stakes are high and relationships build legacies, something AI cannot yet replicate.

We offer the nuanced understanding that turns disputes into dialogues and vision into victory.

The AI Efficiency Trap
AI excels at scale, drafting content in a matter of seconds, analysing data trends and quickly scheduling social campaigns. Tools like generative models now handle routine tasks with precision, but this efficiency can come with a hidden cost – the erosion of authenticity.

While machines process facts, it is humans who are able to interpret emotion. And when looking at LinkedIn content or your favourite B2B magazine, for example, audiences crave voices that feel real, are authentic and not robotic. Don’t be fooled, your audiences are hyper-sensitive to unauthentic content, quickly moving away to follow threads that provide them with that authentic human-driven content that we are all craving in this world of technology.

Because AI promises lightning speed, this hyper-acceleration can backfire. Cranking out work faster can lead to gaps emerging. That isn’t efficiency; it’s a recipe for disaster.

This is how to avoid these pitfalls:

  • Set intentional pauses – make use of AI for drafts and inspiration, but make sure that you mandate human review sessions to catch blind spots and ensure authenticity
  • Prioritise depth over volume, reserving human energy for high-impact connection adding human creativity to the mix
  • Build boundaries – by implementing team rituals that foster genuine human collaboration

Empathy: The Ultimate Differentiator
Human-centric communication starts with empathy, our ability to step into your audience’s world. Whether promoting infrastructure projects or crafting thought leadership frameworks for consulting engineers, we ask: What keeps you up at night? AI can suggest keywords for SEO, but it can’t sense the frustration of a delayed project or the excitement of a sustainable energy breakthrough.

We work hard at integrating this by blending tech with touch. Our teams use AI for initial drafts, then layer in human insight: storytelling that mirrors real experiences, like the collaborative spirit behind South Africa’s renewable energy push. This approach doesn’t just inform, it inspires action.

So, where do you stand? Is it AI versus humans or is it humans supported by AI?
